Blankets, Blankets, Blankets

The weather is a roller coaster ride, be sure to keep careful track of your blanket use. We were right on the edge of 26 degrees last night. Yes, the days are mid-40s (close to 50') but if you used blankets in the fall, this is when you have to pay closer attention. Horses that were blanketed early in the fall didn't put on as much of a coat to protect themselves during the winter. They will get cold, drop weight, have a lower immune system, and pick up colds. If you shave them, you have to be even more careful of them. If you take over Mother Nature's roll with blankets and clippers you have to put more time into taking care of them during the roller coaster weather.
